Beef Bone Broth Recipe

When an animal gives its life to feed us, every part matters, from the premium cuts to the bones that held it as it grazed the pastures. 

Making beef bone broth is one of the most meaningful ways to honor that animal. It's a way of letting the nourishment locked in those bones find its way to the table. When I say beef broth is truly liquid gold I mean it:

Health Benefits of Homemade Bone Broth

Supports joint health:
Bone broth is rich in collagen, gelatin, and amino acids like glycine and proline — all of which help maintain healthy joints, cartilage, and connective tissue.

Boosts gut health:
The gelatin in broth can help repair the lining of the digestive tract, supporting better digestion and nutrient absorption. Many people find it soothing for bloating or stomach discomfort.

Strengthens immunity:
Bone broth provides minerals such as calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, and zinc, which help support a healthy immune system.

Promotes healthy skin, hair, and nails:
Collagen and amino acids from slow-simmered bones can improve skin elasticity, reduce dryness, and support healthy hair and nails.

Hydration and electrolytes:
A warm cup of broth replenishes fluids and provides electrolytes like sodium and potassium — especially beneficial during illness or after workouts.

Protein-rich and easy to digest:
Unlike many protein sources, bone broth is gentle on the stomach and can be sipped between meals or used as a nourishing base for soups, stews, and sauces.

There is just something incredibly cozy about homemade beef broth and it is so easy to make in large batches and freeze for use all winter long! I pour my broth into freezer safe zip lock bags and pull it out whenever I need a cup to sip or a base for a winter soup!

Autumn Bone Broth Recipe:

Utilize a large stock pot.

1.) Roast your bones on an aluminum foil lined cookie sheet for 45 minutes at 400 degrees in the oven.

2.) Place the roasted bones into the stock pot and cover with cold water.

3.) Add 1c. apple cider vinegar and let sit for at least 1 hour to leach out the minerals.

4.) Skim off the top layer of grease etc.

5.) Add 2 quartered yellow onions (including skins), 2 tbsp minced garlic, 2 tbsp parsley, 2 bay leaves, 2 bay leaves, 1 tbsp salt, and 1 tbsp pepper and bring to a boil.

  • Make your broth your own! Here are some ideas of other things you can add to your broth: apples, celery, carrots, or wine!

6.) Reduce heat to low and simmer for 24-72 hours, the longer the better! I personally let my broth simmer during the day and shut it off at night. In the morning I skim off the fats while its cooled and then start the simmer again. This back and forth of simmer to cool to simmer helps create a clear bone broth! Make sure the bones are covered with water throughout the process. You may have to add.

7.) Let the broth cool then skim the top and strain through a fine mesh, cheesecloth, or paper towel depending on how "clean" you want your broth.

8.) Place cooled broth into freezer safe zip locks and enjoy all winter long!
